I love cherries. Everything about them I love. From their flavor that spans both sweet and deliciously tart, to the sound of the crunch and the juicy burst when you bite into them, I can't get enough of cherries! (And usually end up eating so many of them that my stomach hurts!).

It might seem a little early, but February is indeed National Cherry Month. And in those beautiful little guys' honor, I want to share just a few reasons why you should pick up some fresh cherries in the coming months. They are a super-fruit and are power packed with goodness.

3 Reasons to Eat Cherries:

  1. They are low in calories and rich in antioxidants. Cherries strengthen your body's defenses. They have cancer-fighting qualities that help fight free radicals, they help protect against cardiovascular disease, aging and neurological diseases, and they also help reduce total body inflammation.
  2. Cherries are rich in vitamins, phytonutrients, minerals and fiber. They are a good source of vitamins A and C and fiber and can help improve overall health.
  3. Cherries contain melatonin, which has soothing effects on the brain neurons and nervous system and can help relieve neurosis, insomnia and headaches.

What's not to love about that?!

1 Delicious (and Easy) Fresh Cherry Recipe:

Now the fun part...recipes! When fresh cherries start hitting the farm stands I start dreaming of a multitude of ways to enjoy them and jump in to start inventing different ways to serve them. Here is the first recipe I plan to make as soon as I can get my hands on some of those juicy little babies:
